Our trip to Glacier also included two nights in the Canadian portion of the Park, in Waterton. Aside from the mountains and glacial lake, one of the most iconic things about this area is the Price of Wales hotel. While it was too cloudy to get a shot of the mountains and the hotel, I was able to get a great reflection!
From the perch of the hotel, you are afforded a magnificent view of the town of Waterton, the glacially carved peaks surrounding the lake, and Upper Lake Waterton, which is shared by the United States and Canada, with the international border nearly splitting it in half.
I was lucky to capture the great view in the afternoon and then again at sunset. . .
And I had to throw in a dramatic black-and-white for good measure!
We spent a day hiking the fabulous 5.4 mile (one-way) trail to Crypt Lake, which requires taking a ferry across the lake to the trailhead. As we started to climb above the trees, the views were spectacular.
It wasn’t all mountains and majesty, though. The trail provided plenty of quiet beauty, too.
And even a grizzly bear siting!
The destination: Crypt Lake!
I’ll finish off with a few moody shots of Upper Waterton Lake. . . I was a little disappointed that over half of our time in Canada was gray and overcast, but I must admit that it makes for some pretty amazing photographs!
Wow,is all I can say. These are amazing. What scenary. Too bad those glaciers are melting, it’s so beautiful.
Very nice photos! I stayed at the Prince of Wales earlier this month and the view of Waterton Lake and the mountains from up there was breathtaking.
