Under a starry sky {Bozeman Nature Photographer}

While camping with my family in the Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains of Montana last weekend I was star-struck.  I don’t find myself outside much once the sun goes down, so it really was a treat to see this amazing scene unfold before my eyes as the sun crept down and the dark night sky started to shimmer overhead.

I hadn’t even considered the nighttime photographic opportunities while prepping for our trip (somehow I was overwhelmed with making sure we had everything necessary to survive in the woods for 2 nights with a 1- and 3-year-old. . .), so I just had to experiment a little bit with my camera.  Thankfully, my experiments were successful!

These photos remind me of a poster I had on my wall as a little girl–when I dreamed of one day becoming an astronaut–that showed a photo of the earth and stars taken from the surface of the moon.  The quote along the bottom was something along the lines of, “someday, I’d like to stand on the surface of the moon, look through a quarter of a million miles of space, and say, ‘there certainly is a beautiful earth out tonight.’ “  While my girlhood dreams have changed, I will say that we get some pretty impressive views from right here on the surface of the Earth!

Amy, what great shots. Love how you can see the stars in all the darkness.

Love it. We’re blessed here with clear skies and low light pollution.
