Gallatin County hosted its annual Wild West Winterfest this past weekend and one of the ways we have fun out here in the cold western winters is by ski joring. Okay, it’s not actually that common, but it is pretty cool. It’s a team event with one person on a horse and their partner on skis. They maneuver a circular course, hitting some jumps and slaloming cones, all under the ticking hand of a stop-watch. The team that successfully navigates the course, in the fastest time, wins.
Despite the biting wind and frigid mid-teens temperatures, we watched a few competitors ride the track. These young sisters did pretty well. . .
. . . until a wipe-out on the last jump!
The next team up, competing in the Adult Female category, fared a little better!
If you ever find yourself with the opportunity to view a ski joring event, I highly recommend it!
