Another session from the summer that got buried in my files was with this great family! We had a little bit of ocean views (albeit on a gray day!) and we found an amazing blue wall — a perfect backdrop. Even though the sky was solid gray, the smiles we got made for a happy day. These just might be some of my favorite images from the summer!

Going back through my summer clients, I realized that I neglected to blog one of my favorite sessions! This beautiful couple hasn’t had portraits together since their wedding, and now 4 beautiful children later, they decided it was time! We did a sunset session on the beach and it was simply gorgeous! The glow of the sunset and some quiet together made for a fantastic session! Enjoy!

One of my resolutions for 2012 is to keep this blog a bit more exciting. And at the very least, I want to keep it more active! So, I’m rolling out one of my favorites, a “Friday Favorites” post. Since I shared some of my favorite personal images from 2011 yesterday, I thought it appropriate that today I’d share some of my favorite client images from 2011.

I can be notoriously indecisive, so picking just 1 favorite from each of my sessions was difficult. I’m sure if I went back through them all again, I’d end up with a completely different set of favorites. And you may notice (if you’re watching closely!) that a few sessions even have more than 1 image. Indecision, my dear readers. . . at least I’m honest with myself!

A few months ago, I donated a photo session to a charity auction. I was delighted to learn that this amazing couple had the winning bid! They are celebrating 50 years of marriage this October and wanted to have some portraits before the big celebration.

They really are an amazing couple and such an inspiration.

And they’re adorable, too!

I celebrated 11 years of marriage with my husband this past weekend and I couldn’t help but think of this couple. . . I can take all of the memories and love shared with my husband and multiply it by 5 to have just a glimpse of their relationship. And I’m utterly in awe!

I had such a fun evening photographing this pair and want to simply say, “Congratulations!”

As promised, here are some more images from my sister’s wedding at the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club in Naples, FL. It was truly paradise! I proudly stood by my sister’s side as she said “I do” and I was filled with joy for her, her husband and the beauty of the day. I didn’t have official photography duties, but I couldn’t resist having my camera out! A little glimpse of paradise, to set the scene:

And then onto the events of the day, starting with a trip to the salon for hair-do’s and prettying ourselves up with make-up!

Once their official duties were over, the ring bearers immediately set to more exciting tasks, like playing with cars and heading to the beach. . .

It was a beautiful day and I am so thrilled to have a new brother-in-law. Congratulations to my beautiful sister and her wonderful new husband!

Happily Ever After {Naples, FL Beach Wedding}

I had the great joy of standing next to my little sister as Matron of Honor when she said, “I do” this past weekend. The extremely talented Maria Glassford had official photography duties, but of course I couldn’t resist doing a little work myself.

The wedding was at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club, right on the Gulf of Mexico, and it was a beautiful as you’d imagine. I loved these bright blue doors hidden by the palms. . . it doesn’t get more tropical than that!

Blue wasn’t just on the doors, either. The attendants dresses were blue, “the color of the deep sea” and the bride had some fabulous blue shoes, too!

It’s with no sisterly bias that I honestly say, she made a gorgeous bride!

And, they make a gorgeous couple!

Watching the sun set over the water right after they were pronounced “husband and wife” was the perfect way to celebrate the joyous day and this wonderful couple.

I have lots more to share, but they will have wait until I get back home. . . stay tuned next week!

Let’s face it, this winter has been a little crazy. We’ve had frigid temps that will turn your extremities to ice within minutes, we’ve had blah gray days, and today it practically feels like it’s May. The high temperature recorded at MSU yesterday was 58 degrees! What I’m really longing for is a big dumping of snow followed by a blue-bird 25 degree day. That will have me in the mood to get my skis out!

I had the pleasure of being the second shooter at a Thanksgiving-weekend wedding with my friend Rab Cummings. I had a great time working with my friend and this amazing couple. Get ready for the long version of the story of their day (viewed through my lens–Rab will have some of his amazing shots up on his blog soon)!

I have to start out with a little bit of love (in both color and black and white). . .

Then go back to the start, the preparations and getting ready!

And then came the wedding day “first look” and some formal portraits . . .

The wedding was in the evening, so after taking advantage of afternoon light for outdoor photos, the bride and groom had some time to go home and relax before getting ready a second time for the actual ceremony.

Post-ceremony congratulations from friends, a few more formal portraits, and then the party and feast began!

In lieu of a wedding cake, the guests enjoyed creme brulee prepared by the groom, accented with delicate white chocolate leaves.

Congratulations Cindy and Scott! May your beautiful day be a reflection of your love and life for years to come!

Date Night {Bozeman Couples Photographer}

As much as your kids are the center of your world, you have to have “date night” with your spouse on a regular basis to bring you back to where it all started! In yesterday’s post, I shared the family photos and you could easily see what their sweet son means to them. But during our session, we also took some time to let mom and dad connect without their scene-stealing little cutie. It was like a mini-”date night” and as you can see here, they’ve still got it!

So, take a lesson from this happy couple and get out there for a date night without your kids every now and then!

I had the distinct pleasure of assisting my friend and fellow photographer, Rab Cummings, photograph a wedding this past weekend. I had been hoping I would one day get the opportunity to be “second shooter” at a wedding and I was thrilled that I got to have my first experience doing so for such a fabulous couple in a fabulous location with a fabulous photographer. The wedding was at Bozeman’s local ski area, Bridger Bowl, set half way up the mountain at the resort’s Upper Lodge. The details were perfect! The lovely couple found the perfect balance between elegant and relaxed. I’ll start by setting the scene. . .

And then follow with the flow of the afternoon. First, of course, the bride gets ready. . .

. . . then heads to a beautiful spot to wait for her groom for a “first look” on the wedding day.

As he came down the hill and they caught a glimpse of each other, it was a tender moment and the love just emanates between them. They were glowing and I felt so honored to be able to capture these special moments for them. When you see a couple in love, on their wedding day, you can’t help but reminisce about your own wedding day and your heart just starts soaring!

The bride and groom posed for some formal portraits. . .

. . . which, of course, had to involve the ski lift (they were getting married at a ski resort, after all!).

And then they retreated to the lodge to relax with the wedding party as their guests began to arrive, mingling and enjoying cocktails. The wedding soon began and it was a touching and joyous ceremony, and everyone from the bride to the wedding party to the guests couldn’t keep from smiling!

Congratulations, Cary and Stacie! I am so appreciative to you and to Rab for letting me be a part of your special and beautiful day!

Wedded Bliss {Bozeman Photographer}

While on our recent vacation with friends, we had “photo shoot night.” With 2 out of the 3 of us being photographers we have fun posing for and taking updated family photos. Erin took some family photos and then while she was wrangling her kiddos for some shots, Samantha asked if I would do a few pictures of her and her dear husband, Steve. While on our vacation, they celebrated their 9 year wedding anniversary!

We attended their wedding back in 2001, but it almost seems like it was yesterday. They are just as beautiful and as happy as that special day 9 years ago and I’m so glad I could capture that for them!

Happy Anniversary, friends! Here’s to many, many more!

Super Size Sneak Peek {Bozeman Family Photographer}

A “sneak peek” is supposed to be just that–a little sneak of a peek at a few photos from a session. Well,we had so much fun and I got so many great photos at this session last week, I just couldn’t pare it down any more than what you see here. So, the result is this super-sized sneak peek.

After Mom and Dad showed their affection for their dear children, I thought it would be fun to capture some sibling love. When I asked for kisses on cheeks, I got quite the adorable response!

Okay, now, big brother, it’s your turn to do the smooching!

They did so good, I was willing to let them off the hook and just sit next to each other. . .

Mom and Dad followed their sweet kiddos’ lead and smiled nicely for me. . .

And we got the whole foursome again!

By now, they were all pro’s in front of the camera and the kids happily posed for some close-ups.

I’ve been a blessed photographer lately, having so many photogenic families to pose for me!

Ten {Bozeman Family Photographer}

This weekend I got to photograph an extended family–ten lovely people together! Seeing the adult brother and sister along with their parents and all of their kids certainly makes me wish that we lived closer to our family. How great it is that the littlest kiddos get to grow up with their cousins nearby!

Old Man Weather wasn’t really in the mood for a photo shoot, serving up some very cold temperatures and blowing snow, so we started out inside.

After a few shots of the entire family, grandma and grandpa insisted on posing with their grandkids.

I can’t say I blame them for wanting to keep all that adorableness to themselves!

The snow finally stopped, so we ventured out to the covered porch for a few more photos. Our spunky 6-year-old was the only one brave enough to jump down into the snow. . .

. . . the rest of us kept our feet dry and stayed on the porch! And we finally got some smiles out of Little Miss 1-year-old. Seems she was just waiting for her close-up (and a few good tickles from Mom)!

We finished up by letting the two who started it all take survey of their lovely family!

Live, love, laugh just about sums it all up!

Megan and Jeremiah just celebrated 9 years of marriage. They’ve actually been together for 14 years. And after 3 kids and all that time, they still know how to make each other laugh. I was a little nervous when Megan asked if I would do some photos for them. Babies don’t need direction the same way that adults do, but adults also don’t cry so much as babies, so it ended up going much better than I had hoped. Maybe it was just because the subjects were so comfortably and easily in love–the way that happens after being together 14 years–and it showed up so easily in the shots. I had a great time photographing them and hope they enjoy the results. Happy Anniversary, you two!
