I am so excited and honored to a part of the nationwide “Celebration of Smiles” charitable portrait event organized by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA)! Friday Favorites: Best of 2011 {Los Angeles Family Photographer}

One of my resolutions for 2012 is to keep this blog a bit more exciting. And at the very least, I want to keep it more active! So, I’m rolling out one of my favorites, a “Friday Favorites” post. Since I shared some of my favorite personal images from 2011 yesterday, I thought it appropriate that today I’d share some of my favorite client images from 2011.

I can be notoriously indecisive, so picking just 1 favorite from each of my sessions was difficult. I’m sure if I went back through them all again, I’d end up with a completely different set of favorites. And you may notice (if you’re watching closely!) that a few sessions even have more than 1 image. Indecision, my dear readers. . . at least I’m honest with myself!

Yesterday, I introduced you to Madison and said that she had a joint senior portrait session with her friend. Well, here is her beautiful friend, Mallory! Did I mention how much fun I had with these two ladies? I think I did, but it’s worth saying again. The were perfect models, sweet, friendly, and a joy to work with. I know they will find success in whatever they endeavor. . .

. . . and they’re going to have a blast during their senior year! Mallory, I’m so glad to have met you and I wish you a fantastic Senior Year and beyond!

Madison | Class of 2012 {Bozeman Senior Pictures}

A few weeks ago, this gorgeous young woman contacted me about senior photos. She lives in Texas, but comes to Bozeman every summer to visit her family’s beautiful mountain property. She was going to be in town for a few weeks and wanted to have her pictures done with Montana as a backdrop, so she’d have something a little different from all the other seniors at her school. The bonus is that her friend was visiting for the week, too, so they had their session at the same time (a peek at Mallory’s pictures will be ready tomorrow!).

It was a beautiful evening up in the mountains and we had so many great spots to work with. These girls were great models and I can’t think of a better way to have spent a perfect Bozeman summer evening.

Best of luck to you, Madison, in your upcoming senior year. It was such a pleasure to work with you and I also hope you enjoyed your summer escape to Montana!

Let’s face it, this winter has been a little crazy. We’ve had frigid temps that will turn your extremities to ice within minutes, we’ve had blah gray days, and today it practically feels like it’s May. The high temperature recorded at MSU yesterday was 58 degrees! What I’m really longing for is a big dumping of snow followed by a blue-bird 25 degree day. That will have me in the mood to get my skis out!

Warmer Day Flashback {Bozeman Portrait Photographer}

Yesterday, I was walking through this intersection on Main Street, holding my 4-year-old by the hand and pushing my not-yet-2-year-old in the stroller. We were slogging through about 4 inches of fresh snow, still not cleared from the sidewalk because several more inches were still falling to the ground.

At that moment, I remembered this image and thought, what a difference 3 months makes!

I shared a few other images from this beauty’s session a while back, but was saving this one for the perfect time. Yesterday, in all that snow, I realized it was the perfect time!

On the last day of 2010, I wanted to take some time to reflect back on the amazing year that is about to come to a close. I had so many wonderful clients this year and I truly appreciate every single one. As I was looking back, I was inspired by some of my photographer friends to pick my 10 favorites from 2010.

Well, all of my fabulous clients made that a very, very challenging task! And in the end, I couldn’t even do it. . . so here are 11 of my favorites from the year. And if I looked through all of my files again in an hour I’d probably come up with a completely different 10 (or 11 or 12 ).

It’s the time of year for giving and I decided to give my 2010 clients a chance to win a 16×20 gallery-wrapped canvas! I gave all of my clients the opportunity to pick the image that they would want to see as a 16×20 canvas on their wall, and those that replied are posted below. Now, all of my blog readers and fans get to decide who the lucky winner is!

Here’s how it’s going to work:

1. Decide which your favorite image of the bunch is and leave a comment on this blog post saying which # you pick (just click the word “comments” at the top of the post, right under the title).

It’s that easy! The fine print is this: one vote per person, per day (so, that means one vote per e-mail/IP address combination AND each “day” ends at midnight MST). This also means that you must include a valid e-mail address with your comment (this is not seen by the public, only by me). Voting starts NOW and will end at midnight CST Friday, December 3rd. If you vote each day, you’ll have the chance to vote a total of 3 times. Also note that “comment moderation” is activated, so you will not automatically see your vote appear as a comment on this post. I will moderate at various times throughout the day, so you will eventually see your vote appear.

The other fun part is that once voting is complete, 1 lucky person will win a free photo session in 2011! A bright future {Bozeman Senior Photographer}

I had another high school senior session this past weekend with yet another fabulous young man. Bozeman sure knows how to raise its sons right! For starters, he’s an excellent student. . .

And he’s also an athlete, running on the state championship cross-country team and putting in lots of laps on the track competing in the long distance events. . .

And if you think that the hours studying and logging miles keep him busy enough, you better think again! He’s also an accomplished musician, playing french horn, piano, and singing.

He’s just an all-around friendly, polite, talented, and good-natured guy!

And I can’t resist sharing just a few more!

He surely has made his parents very proud and I had a great time documenting this important time in his life. His future couldn’t be brighter!

A true Montanan {Bozeman Montana Senior Photographer}

I photographed another wonderful Bozeman High senior last week. We were rained out twice before and earlier that day it was looking like we may even be rained out a third time. We were rewarded for our patience, however, with an amazing sky and beautiful light.

When deciding where to do his senior portraits, the immediate response was “the mountains.” He’s a born and raised Montanan and loves camping and hiking and exploring this beautiful state we call home. In fact, he goes camping every month of the year. The great thing about Bozeman is that we didn’t have to go far to fulfill his request and then some!

Snow covered-peaks views, hidden bridges, trails, forests. . . it’s all right in our backyard!

This guy surely has a bright future and I wish him the best in all of life’s adventures!

While I was at their home for this senior’s photo shoot, I couldn’t resist getting a few shots with little brother. They are 4 years (and several inches of height) apart, but you could tell that they have a special bond.

I have a feeling that as joyous as graduation is next June, sending big brother off to college is going to be pretty tough!

School is back in session, which means a whole new group of kids is kicking off their last year of high school. It’s such an exciting time, full of optimism and anticipation. I was privileged to spend an evening with one of Bozeman High’s best and brightest of the Class of 2011 last week.

Like most Montanans, he loves the outdoors and wanted to take advantage of a near perfect Montana summer evening for his photos.

He’s every bit the perfect gentleman that he appears in these photos—smart, handsome, friendly, easy-going. And even though he’s almost officially an adult, he did show me that he’s still a kid at heart, playing on the swings. . .

Climbing the trees. . .

And hanging out with his dogs!

I wish this fine young man a fabulous senior year and a most bright and successful future!

Rainbow Girl {Bozeman Senior Photographer}

I’d like to introduce you to one of the most poised, kind, well-spoken, and fun young college students I have had the privilege of photographing. I don’t think I even have to add “beautiful” to that list, because one glance at these photos tells you that!

Aside from her beauty, you may also have noticed her colorful tiara. . . she just recently earned the honor of wearing that as she started her 1-year tenure as the “Grand Worthy Advisor of the Grand Assembly of Montana of the International Order of Rainbow Girls.” Pretty impressive title for a pretty impressive position. She’s basically heading the organization for the entire state of Montana! Rainbow Girls is a nonprofit organization for girls that focuses on encouraging girls to be strong, caring women who give back to their community through service. They participate in numerous community service projects throughout the year, raising money for various charities in their local communities, nationally, and internationally.

And I can’t forget to mention the gorgeous dresses! When not hard at work raising money and giving back in the community, the girls attend social functions with other Rainbow Girls across the country, giving them ample opportunity to look fabulous!

I got to see three of her favorite dresses during our photo shoot on Montana State University’s campus this week. She just finished her first year there, so it was a fitting location for her portraits.

I had a wonderful time photographing this wonderful young woman and I wish her the best as Grand Worthy Advisor for the next year!

Butte Style {Bozeman Portrait Photographer}

After having a chance to do some documentary style portraits and some urban “landscapes” during my recent photography workshop in Butte, Montana, I had the chance to work in my comfort zone doing simple, sweet, and fun portraits. My subjects were a trio of hip, young adults who just happened to be walking down the street and willingly gave myself and a fellow photographer their time. That’s just how the Butte residents are. . . open, friendly, and eager for an ear to listen.

Like I previously mentioned, the people of Butte are so full of life and character. And they are so willing to share that with strangers. Strangers with cameras. How fortunate for us!

. . . a senior yet, but it’s coming fast. Way too fast for her dear Mama, I’m sure!

She’s nearing the end of her freshman year and really starting to come into her own.

Spending time with this gorgeous girl really brought back memories of my own high school experience. Currently, my days are spent in a sea of diapers and toys and time-outs with my 3-year-old and infant. It was fun to go back to the days of after-school sports and geometry and lunch-table gossip that are more years ago than I really care to admit!

My words of wisdom to this bright-eyed beauty: dream big, have fun, and don’t wish it away too fast!
