10 on 10: The Camping Edition {Los Angeles Photographer}

Ok, I’m going to just come clean right now. . . this is way more than 10 pictures.  But when you spend a weekend camping with your family, it’s hard to narrow it down to just 10 images to tell the story.  So please accept my apologies!

We are an outdoorsy family.  We love to hike and camp and just get outside!  While having kids has slowed our pace down a bit, we still like to get out for a camping trip at least once a summer.  This past summer, however, we just never found the right weekend.  The perk to living in Southern California is that the weather is warm enough (and probably even better!) for camping in the fall.  This trip marked a first for us, however, with the rental of a pop-up camper.  We have been 100% tent campers up until this point.  But a few months back, my husband got an itch to put a hitch on our mini-van, knowing that it would make it look tougher AND that we could pull a camper!  So, we rented a little A-Liner for the weekend and headed to Ventura County.  My boys were in heaven!

It was cloudy where we camped, but we headed north through Ojai into the mountains.  We went over one pass and then the sky was completely clear blue.  We hit a fun trail that crossed a stream numerous times, which was quite the adventure for my little hikers.

As we got back to our car my husband says, “Well, we did it!  We found a place near L.A. that we didn’t see another person for over 2 hours!”

As we drove back toward our campground, you could see the clouds oozing over the mountains.  As we drove back up into it, it was so cool to see the exact line of 2 completely different weather systems colliding!

In my opinion, the downside to camping with a camper or RV is that most of the campgrounds feel more like parking lots than actual camp sites.  The perk of going in October is that the campground was only about 30% full, so we had plenty of space to stretch out and the other trailer pads made a great spot for bike riding and casting practice.

It’s not camping if there’s not a little relaxing, right! :-)

And my absolute favorite part about camping is the smores!

We woke up on Sunday and drove out of the mountains toward the ocean.  We found a fabulous little park and picnic area at Sycamore Cove in Ventura for our picnic lunch.

We had time for a little more casting. . .

Running our toes through the water. . .

Playing in the sand. . .

And we even had a little visitor, right off the beach. . . a sea lion!

When I get caught up in the hustle and bustle and crowds and rat race that is Los Angeles, it’s so nice to have a weekend like this to make me truly appreciate the beauty of California and the good fortune that we get to spend a few years living here!

Even though this was more like a “22 on 10,” I still do this as part of a project with some other fab photographers.  Head on over to check out what Chicago Photographer Britt Anderson has for this month!

Looks like you guys had a blast, lots of fun memories for sure. I’m completely jealous of your warm weather!

Adopt me!!! Looks like so much fun – those memories are PRICELESS.
Love that little camper… beautiful scenery! I love camping, I just wish we had half the beautiful nature here in Wisconsin.

Fine Art Friday: Yellow Skies {Montana Fine Art Photographer}

My fine art piece for this month was inspired by fall and Montana, two of my favorite things.  I was in Bozeman, Montana earlier in October and autumn was just about to peak.  I just breathed in deep and filed my soul with all the serenity and beauty that Los Angeles is lacking.  Yes, L.A. does have it’s own sense of beauty, you just have to look a little farther to find it.  And don’t look out of your peripheral vision or your view will be marred by either someone or something.   In Montana, you really can just soak it all up!

Yellow Birch Trees make a beautiful canopy under a gray fall sky.

Now, head on over to Durham NC Fine Art Photographer Leigh Ann Hines site to see her fine art piece this month!

[...] a GREAT weekend but before you leave please hop over and check out and see the image for Amy at Amy Shertzer Photography located in Los Angeles, [...]

Beautiful! I absolutely love the perspective!

I love the bright color contrasted with the dark tree trunks. One of my favorite Ansel Adams images is of the alders with the contrast if bright leaves and dark trunks.

I really like this image. The lines color and contrast are simply stunning. :)

Jumping for Joy! {Los Angeles Family Photographer}

I had such a great time with this family!  Loved their styling, the location, their pooch (Ruby!), and just how amazing they are together.

We had fun piggy back rides and sweet moments between brother and sister. . .

A boy and his dog. . .

And even some jumping for joy before it was all over!

All I Want for Christmas. . . {Los Angeles Family Photographer}

. . . is my two front teeth!  I just couldn’t stop singing that little ditty in my head as I edited this sweet family’s pictures.  Isn’t she just Adorable, with a capital A?!

I love getting to capture that age. . . she’s got lots of personality, little self-consciousness and loads of cuteness.  And to capture that time when their mouths have a few toothless gaps is so fleeting and precious!

Although, even though little brother has a full mouth of baby teeth, he’s just as adorable!  I love, love his sweater romper!

It’s easy to see where those kiddos get their adorableness. . .

Such a sweet, loving, good-looking family!

The Girls with the Curls! {Bozeman Family Photographer}

I absolutely LOVE how this beautiful family looked for their mini-session!  Mom did such a great job styling them — coordinating (but not matchy-matchy) colors, fun textures and patterns, and great accessories!

I also absolutely LOVE how well this trio of siblings got along!  They were not only adorable, but so well mannered and sweet to each other!

And. . . those CURLS!  Aren’t they just to die for?!  Such beautiful girls!

Not to leave brother out, by any means.  I first photographed this handsome guy at his preschool 3 years ago.  Those pictures are quite possibly some of my favorite preschool photos ever.  He still knows how to work the camera!

Such a great family and I was honored to have them in front of my camera!

Thanks so much, Amy! I think the one of Joey is my absolute favorite. I love how it brings out the blue in his eyes!
