Friday Favorites: Best of 2011 {Los Angeles Family Photographer}

One of my resolutions for 2012 is to keep this blog a bit more exciting.  And at the very least, I want to keep it more active!  So, I’m rolling out one of my favorites, a “Friday Favorites” post.  Since I shared some of my favorite personal images from 2011 yesterday, I thought it appropriate that today I’d share some of my favorite client images from 2011.

I can be notoriously indecisive, so picking just 1 favorite from each of my sessions was difficult.  I’m sure if I went back through them all again, I’d end up with a completely different set of favorites.   And you may notice (if you’re watching closely!) that a few sessions even have more than 1 image.  Indecision, my dear readers. . . at least I’m honest with myself!

So, now, I present to you — in no particular order — a few of my favorite things:

Happy Friday!  Have a great first weekend of 2012!

Wow, Amy, you had quite the year. Absolutely amazing photo!

The Best of 2011 {Los Angeles Family Photographer}

Even though we’ve rung in 2012, I’m not quite ready to bid adieu to 2011.  For the last two years I’ve done a personal 365 project.  Basically, I committed to taking at least 1 picture every single day.  And as many pictures I usually take, this would seem easy.  But there were plenty of days I was completely burned out and didn’t want to touch my camera.  So I didn’t.  In all, I have 340 images from 2011 documented in my project.

Some are worthy of hanging on the wall as fine art, some are beautiful portraits of my boys, some are just silly snap shots, and plenty were snapped with my iPhone.  The one thing that is missing is client images.  I had some fabulous clients in 2011, but my 365 project was personal.  I wanted to create a memory of our life, of the places we love, the places we’ve been, and the times we shared.  Although I missed some days, I am so happy to have the collections from the last 2 years.  I put 2010′s into a hard-bound book and it’s a great keepsake of our life.  The images from 2011 are headed for the same fate!

You can see my entire set on flickr:  Amy Shertzer’s Project 2011 365 but I couldn’t resist going through and assembling a “best of the year” collection.   Here’s the Top 44 from our life in 2011 (click to see a slide show of the images):

Starry Night {California Landscape Photographer}

The week before Christmas, my family took a short little getaway to Sequoia National Park.  We were seeking cooler temps, solitude, and fresh mountain air. . . and a landscape a little more like Montana!

When you’re in the national park with some of the largest trees in the world, you spend a lot of time looking up.  I decided to turn my camera to the sky once the sun had set.  It’s amazing how many stars are up there once you get away from the smog of L.A.!

Dear Friends {L.A. Family Photographer}

My trip to Bozeman this past October would not have been complete without a visit to see this dear family.  Fellow professional photographer  Kelly Kuntz and I worked together photographing a preschool during my visit, but I just had to see her little munchkin, too!  And of course we had to get some family pictures for their Christmas card. ;-)

We were at one of my favorite Bozeman spots, with gorgeous views of the Bridger Mountains, made even more fantastic with the golden colored foliage dotting the scene. . .

Here is Mr. Handsome, himself. . .

Sweet, smart, and adorable as ever!

He’s preparing for the role of big brother, which he’ll assume this coming March.  I know he’ll do great!  I’m thinking a late March visit to Montana is going to be in order for me. . . I can’t wait to meet the new little one! ;-)  I’m so excited for you, Kuntz Family!

Baby Gus {Los Angeles Baby Photographer}

One of my favorite visits while on my trip back to Bozeman Montana in October was to meet this little guy.  I watched his mama’s belly grow larger all year, while her two older children bounded across the street to play with my two boys.  He was due to arrive in late September, but with a move date of late August, I knew I’d miss his arrival.  He ended up coming early, but still not until after our move to Los Angeles.

When I finally got to meet him he was 6 weeks old and a perfect little gentleman!

I love me some baby toes!

I can’t wait to see him again on my next visit to Bozeman.  Maybe then I’ll even get to photograph him with his big brother and sister!
