Sunset {Los Angeles Beach Photographer}

Watching the sun set at the beach never gets old.  Some days it is more spectacular than others, and this was one of those days.  Watching the bright sun dip below the horizon with sand between my toes and waves crashing along the shore just fills my soul with joy, hope, and serenity.  Yes, I know that sound hokey, but it’s true.  I feel blessed to live in a place where I can watch the sun set this way just about every day.

Hopefully, this brings you some of that joy and hope.  Especially if you don’t live anywhere near a coastline!

52 in 2012: Week 5 {Tired}

This is my oldest son, my sleepy head.  He often sleeps until 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. every morning.  And at least a couple of times a month he’ll sleep until nearly 10 a.m.!  I’m a little concerned that when he reaches his teenage years, he’s going to be asleep all the time.  I took this image of him in the morning, just after he woke up, which may not be “tired” to some, but to him, he’s almost always a little groggy.  As if he could easily lay his head back down and go to sleep again!

I mentioned last week that several other photographers are playing along in the Photo-a-week project for 2012 and here’s the list!  You can click through them all to see what they are up to this week!
Michelle, Heather, Jenn, Heather. Rhonda, Tracey, Stacey, Andrea, Jessica, Amanda, Sarah, Janet, Lesli, Carla, Lena, Rose, Naomi, Tracy, Heidi, Veronica, Amy, Kristin

Uh, best bed head I’ve seen in a long time! Great idea to capture him just as he awoke. Love the light in the photo too!

What a cutie. My 6 year old son is the same way – he’s groggy in the morning, just like his mama!!

So glad you joined the group! I am by no means in the same league as the rest of you superb photographers, but this has been a great challenge for me.

Friday Favorites {L.A. Family Photographer}

Another installment of Friday Favorites for today!

Ideal Blox  — This fabulous set was a gift to my kids and I should confess that I find myself playing with them just as much as they do!

Harry Belafonte –  I dare you to listen to the 30-second sample of Jump in the Line and not start bopping and singing along!  I especially love my Harry Belafonte Pandora station.  It’s perfect to put on with the kids and have a little living room dance party.  Way more enjoyable for me than traditional “kid music,” but much friendlier to their innocent ears than today’s pop music..

Appetizers! –  It’s Super Bowl weekend, and while I’m not particularly into football, I do love the commercials and an afternoon of party appetizers!  I saw this recipe for Loaded Baked Potato Dip and I can’t wait to try it.  Doesn’t it look delicious?!

Well, that’s all for today!  Have a happy Super Bowl weekend!

we have that toy too and it’s been a family favourite for years (though every so often we lose one of the white pieces only to find it months or years later)!

The Birthday Boy {Los Angeles Child Photographer}

My baby turns 5 years old today!  And as I do near every birthday, I took him out for a little photo shoot a few days ago.  This is the first time in 5 years that he’s ever been able to do it outside with shorts on, though!  This January baby has lived his entire life in snowy climates until this past year.  I have thousands and thousands of photos of my boys, but most of them are snapshots of our life.  Those are great, but I love to have these, too.  He’s in a cute, coordinated outfit (unlike most days where there is a superhero or truck or train or dino blaring on his shirt!) and in a fabulous location.

As I celebrate my wonderful boy today, I hope you’ll enjoy a few from his “Official 5-year-old Birthday Photo Shoot!”

52 in 2012: Week 4 {Winter/Summer}

This week’s theme had me a little stumped. . . something that represents winter and summer?  A picture of something now, in the winter, and then the same object again in the summer (the inverse of this theme pops up in July)?  Add in the fact that I’m in Los Angeles, where it always looks like summer, and I was stumped.

Until we were down in Hermosa Beach at sunset earlier this week.  And then I saw it. . . the sky says “winter” to me (and I love the little peek of a crescent moon in the upper right), but the volleyball says “summer,” a perfect mix of {winter/summer}

Sunset silhouette beach picture with volleyball players and pink clouds on a deep blue sky.

And now I’ll confess that I’m working on this project alongside another fabulous group of photographers.  But we’re not 100% organized.  I don’t have links to everyone and, apparently, we aren’t all working from the same list of themes!  I’ll send you to Kristin  for this week, and you’ll see that she has the big list.  I’ll get my act together for next week!
