Living in Southern California, we were lucky enough to see the solar eclipse on Sunday. Due to our southern latitude, we didn’t get to see the “ring of fire,” but we did see the moon eclipse about 85% of the sun at the peak of the event. Living in Southern California, we are also lucky enough to be just minutes from the beach.

So we built a simple homemade pinhole viewer so we could safely view the eclipse and headed toward the coast. And when we got to the beach, the coastal clouds were in full effect, creating a natural filter for viewing, not to mention some pretty spectacular skies.

I love that we got to enjoy this rare sight in such a beautiful place!
